St. Thomas Minor Seminary was established on 3rd September 1985 under the visionary leadership of Most. Rev. Joseph Mittathany, DD, the then Bishop of Imphal Diocese with a view to train young Catholic boys who wish to become Catholic Priests under Catholic Latin Rite.

Interested young boys are recruited after Class X Board Exam conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur, Government of India. Recruited young boys do their Higher Secondary Education here. The teaching faculty members take daily classes for them. Young seminarians are also trained in various games and sports apart from managerial training, life skill training, spirituality, ethics and discipline. The young boys are sent for further studies after Class XII. It takes about 13.5 years of training.
